New Acquisitions

December 18, 2023 – March 3, 2024

Over the last year and a half, the North Dakota Museum of Art has acquired a significant body of new work from artists across the globe. Much of the work was purchased by an anonymous donor, and others were donated by the artists or the owner of the work.

In the Mezzanine Gallery, visitors will find two suites by famed British artist David Hockney. Both suites are gifts of Dr. William F. Wosick of Fargo, ND. In 1976, Hockney was introduced to Wallace Stevens’ poem The Man with the Blue Guitar, which is based on Pablo Picasso’s painting The Old Guitarist. Hockney produced a series of prints based on this poem and used Picasso’s painting as the central image of the suite. In Hockney’s Cavafy series, viewers will find 13 etchings with 14 poems by C.P. Cavafy, considered one of the most influential Greek poets of the 20th century.
