Garage Video

May 4 – June 18, 2000

Just as bands are formed in the family garage with instruments bought at garage sales for 10 cents, beginning video artists work in borrowed spaces on a shoestring. Garage Video, the iconoclastic work of seven emerging Winnipeg artists, allows the viewer to see how young artists take ordinary props and transform them through the eyes of their modest cameras into magic.

Michael Dumonteir, Hollie Dzama, Marcel Dzama, Neil Farber, Scott Hadaller, Drue Langlois, and Myles Langlois make up the loosley knit group creating under the umbrella of the Royal Art Lodge crest. They work in the same downtown Winnipeg studio, producing art as individuals and as a collective, sharing resources and ideas. They are known for their collaged objects, puppets, improvised musical instruments, drawings, a band called Albatross, mixed-media audio art and quirky performances.
