On a cold, icy winter day when "the world was ice and we were skaters without skates," seven children set out on a sledding adventure that soon soars to epic proportions.

Lizzie and her friends convince Grampa Bud to let them use his custom-built runner sled — an old-fashioned travis sled built for speed. But first they have to get the long sled up the iciest, diciest, scariest hill ever!

Acclaimed New Hampshire storyteller Rebecca Rule infuses this story with her trademark wry sense of humor and authentic New England language, making it perfect for story time and this workshop.

Jennifer Thermes' vivid watercolors animate the winsome characters and joyous winter action, as the seven children slip, slide, crawl, and scramble their way up the icy slope to finally fly down the highest, mightiest, iciest sledding hill on Old Mountain Road. You'll be holding on to your hats and scarves for this one!

We will be paying close attention to the story and illustrations, making connections with what we see and read. After investigating the story we'll come up with our own sledding adventure stories and create three dimensional sledding scenes to illustrate the wild ride. This workshop reinforces the relationship between visual and written forms of expression.

I’ve taught papermaking workshops in schools and classrooms, adapting the content to suit all age groups and abilities.

Making handmade paper is a traditional craft that goes back to the invention of paper in China at the start of the 2nd century. It is a technique that is quick to grasp and is easy for children to accomplish and get instant satisfying results.

Ready to get your hands pulpy? In this 2 hour introduction to papermaking, kids will learn the basics of making recycled handmade paper made from 100% post-consumer waste paper. We will supply lots of pulp, coloring, and other fun embellishments (glitter, seeds, confetti, etc.) so kids can create their own custom paper. They will learn how to form sheets of paper in different sizes and weights. When they’re finished we will press it and have it ready to dry at home.

The unique handmade papers are great for cards, stamping, drawing, or framing on their own. What will you make?
